Concept & Foundation

Owl’s Mill was one of my earliest branding projects, developed in 2018. I keep it as a milestone in my journey into brand design, as it marked the beginning of my approach to building identities with structural intention.

The concept was developed quite literally from the brand name itself. The logo integrates three elements into a single form: an owl, a reference to a mill through grain symbolism, and a hop cone representing beer. These components merge into a unified symbol designed to be both descriptive and memorable.

Identity System & Scalability

From the beginning, the brand was conceived as a scalable system rather than a standalone mark. The logo was designed to function effectively in a single color, allowing reproduction across various printing technologies without increasing production costs.

This constraint became a strategic advantage. By ensuring the identity worked in one ink, the visual system could remain flexible while maintaining strong recognition across different applications and formats.

Visual Expansion

The single-color structure also enabled the development of a broader visual system. Variations in color and secondary elements were used to differentiate flavors while preserving the integrity of the core symbol.

Even at this early stage, the project reflects a principle that continues to guide my work today: strong brands are built on simple, adaptable structures that allow for growth without losing clarity.

Conclusion

Owl’s Mill remains an early milestone in my career, but also a reminder of the foundations that continue to shape my work today.

It reflects an early understanding of structure, scalability, and intentional simplicity: principles that still guide how I approach brand and system design.
